- Tell us where it hurts. Describe whether it is in the gum, tooth, jaw, ear, or side of your face.
- Mention swelling or fever. Explain any change in swelling, your ability to open your mouth, or how you feel overall.
- Do not place medication on the gum. Use medicines only as directed on the label or by a clinician.
When to seek emergency medical care
Go to an emergency department for trouble breathing or swallowing, rapidly spreading swelling, a serious face or jaw injury, or signs of a medical emergency.
